![]() ![]() In the early 70's, Murphy Platero, the only son of a Navajo evangelist, was about to change his life. The crusade tent team needed a drummer. With the encouragement of relatives and friends, Murphy played drums that night. Unable to keep the beat, a more experienced drummer had to finish out the night. Broken hearted because he felt he let his family down, he cried as he listened to the music. Suddenly he remembered words from one of his father's sermon's, "You can do all things in Christ. Just ask and you shall receive." Murphy prayed asking Jesus to teach and help him learn all about music. By summers end, the Lord had answered one of Murphy's prayers. He was playing drums. That was 28 years ago. By the late 70's, Murphy, his uncle and two cousins had a band called, The Harvesters. They released the album titled, "Back Home On The Reservation." A travelling ministry was born when Murphy started his own band, The Morning Star Band. In 1984, the band signed and released an album with Canyon Records entitled, "When Shall It Be", with 10 songs written by Murphy. The album opened many doors as they travelled the United States and Canada. That same year, he married Janice A. Yazzie. Together they helped his Dad in the tent ministry. Hidden Manna was formed in 1986. In 1992, they released the album "Rain Manna Rain." By 1994, the band had made a name for itself but Murphy felt it was time to go back to basics. Feeling as if they had left Jesus behind somewhere, the band slowed down. Murphy and his family devoted more time to their home church, where he is co-pastor to this day. It has been exciting for this three piece group. They know God has blessed them. They all have have their
stories of pain, tears, joy, trials and yet they know they have to "Continue the Cause." Hidden Manna wants to let people know that Jesus is REAL and ALIVE. They share the music God has given them. Music is what they enjoy playing. But leading people to Jesus is what they love. They always knew they would be used for the Kingdom of God. "Rain Manna Rain."
